On the afternoon of September 5, the 2018 Opening Ceremony of Sino-Danish College, for the first time, was held in the auditorium of the new SDC Building in Yanqihu Campus. 194 new SDC students were welcomed by honored guests from both Chinese and Danish sides, including Mr. Dong Junshe, the Deputy Secretary of the Party committee，Vice president of UCAS, Director of UCASEF, Mr. Morten Laugesen, Danish director of SDC, Mr. Hu Zhongbo, executive vice dean of the International College of UCAS, Mr. Hu Zhengyi, Chinese director of SDC, Ms. Zhao Hong, Dean of Sino-Danish College. Lecturers and supervisors including Mr. Dmitrij Slepniov, HEP from IM, Mr. Song Xianfang, HEP from W&E, Ms. Xue Rong from Neuro Pprogramme were also invited to the ceremony
The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Hu Zhengyi, and Mr. Morten Laugesen together. Mr. Morten delivered the opening speech to the new class of SDC by giving a warm welcome and an elaborate introduction about the history and strategic significance of the establishment of SDC College. He encouraged everyone to be diligent and meticulous, to work tirelessly, to carry forward the spirit of China and Denmark, and to promote the further development of SDC, and with the best period of development between China and Denmark, the new students could shoulder greater responsibilities for the societal progress and scientific advance
Afterwards, Vice president Dong Junshe expressed his welcome to the new students and gave an in-depth introduction to the importance of the SDC project. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”. Starting with Lao Tsu’s saying, Mr. Dong stated that choosing UCAS and SDC is the one important step that all students have taken. UCAS will broad their eyes and lead them to new landscapes. Mr. Dong gave expectations to the new class of 2018, hoped that every Chinese and Danish student could take bold steps and keep on achieving unlimited value in a limited lifetime and UCAS, SDC will become their secure foundation to that goal. His words brought a lot of thoughts and feelings to the students.
Mr. Hu Zhongbo, the Vice Dean of the International College, explained the influence and great future of Sino-Danish College from the perspective of internationalization.
On behalf the Dean of Sino-Danish College, Ms.Zhao Hong welcomed the new students from China, Denmark and other countries to University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and to Sino-Danish College. She conveyed to the students the concerns of the leaders of UCAS for SDC, the future prospects of SDC College, and the ardent expectations for the class of 2018. She said that every Chinese and Danish student should catch this opportunity offered by this platform, using his talents and ambitions to surpass himself and realize the value of life.
The flourishing development of SDC is also inseparable from the excellent team of teachers. It is their professionalism and selfless dedication to cultivate outstanding SDC people from generation to generation. Professor Dmitrij Slepniov, the HEP from Innovation Management programme, spoke at the opening ceremony as a teacher representative. He said that all the students are facing a world with challenges and opportunities. At the background of economic globalization, cross-cultural educated SDC students are more competitive in the society. Thus, every student should seize the opportunity, be brave to innovate, open up to the future, and contribute to the development of China and Denmark. He advocated SDC students to pursue the careers they love, striving for and contributing to them, constantly learning, enriching themselves, and welcoming every journey in life with a positive attitude!
Subsequently, representatives of the students from both China and Denmark spoke. They shared their experiences and feelings during the short days of enrollment, especially the intercultural exchanges and the experience of the Eastern and Western culture. They are very honored to be able to come to SDC, an international platform. Finally, they represented all 2018 new arrivals, expressing their yearning for the future of the academy life and their sincere wishes. They said that in the coming study and life, they would continue to improve themselves, becoming the pride of SDC!
After the ceremony, teachers and students had a group photo together, celebrating the opening of new semester. SDC carries the attention and hope of the Chinese and Danish peoples. In the constant attention of the leaders of the two countries and the continuous efforts of all the teachers and students of China and Denmark, we believe that it will embrace a more and more brighter future!
